DENTON — Caroline County Public Schools has approved the 2020-2021 school year calendar. At the January meeting, Dr. Derek Simmons, Director of Student Services, reviewed the legal requirements for school calendars and the process by which the 2020-2021 calendar was developed.
Simmons stated that this year, the process included two separate surveys, one that gauged general preferences and one that presented four draft calendars. He shared those results with the Board, explaining that while draft calendar D honored the feedback given in the first survey, the second survey clearly showed it was the least preferred calendar.
After discussion, the Board unanimously voted to adopt calendar A, which was most preferred according to the survey. With the approved calendar, students will report to school on Aug. 31 and the last day for students will be June 14. Winter break will be observed Dec. 24-Dec. 31, with a half day on Dec. 23 and school re-opening Jan. 4.
Spring break is scheduled for April 1-5 and Thanksgiving Nov. 25-27. There are also closings for Labor Day, President’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Memorial Day and several days off for students for teacher’s professional development.
