Superintendent of Schools addresses national concerns in letter to families

  • 0

As we near the end of a school year that brought extraordinary challenges, we are now witnessing the wide-reaching impact of events triggered by the tragic death of George Floyd.

Tragedies like this reach far beyond the places they occur and deeply impact us as individuals and as a community. They serve as stark reminders that we still have much work to do to address racism, inequities and disparities that exist in our country.

We add our collective voice to the many expressing sympathy and outrage for Mr. Floyd and all those who have lost their lives in senseless acts of violence. We create a better future for our students when we stand against racism and value the diverse culture of our community.

Our Strategic Plan has four goals, one of which is equity. We have begun the work of examining our policies, practices, and beliefs, and commit to using the lens of equity in evaluating all our decisions and actions. We believe now more than ever that working with our students, families, and community is of the utmost importance to ensure everyone has a seat at the table and all voices are heard.

As always, thank you for your continued commitment and support –

Dr. Patty Saelens

Superintendent of Caroline County Public Schools
