Veterans and active military personnel have been important in protecting our safety and our freedom for many years. However, they along with their families returning from deployment. There are several things that our society can do to show appreciation and compassion.
One thing we could do is prepare care packages for both veterans and active military. They could include letters of support, snacks, books and toiletries. Veteran packages could be hand delivered for a personal visit and spending time with veterans that may live alone or limited in their physical abilities. Fundraising is a good way to raise money for these packages along with donations.
Improved health care and benefits are also important. Specialized mental health and physical care are needed because of experiences they may have encountered during their time of service or trying to transition back to civilian life. Their families also need access to care in order to be able to understand what their family member went through during their service. It might be necessary to create petitions and push for better laws to help our military.
We also need to be able to provide employment for our military and their families. By hosting job fairs and training, our servicemen and women can provide for their families. Their specialized training can also benefit their new jobs. With loans directed towards our veterans, they can become homeowners.
Veterans and active military are proud people and usually are the last to seek out help. We need to give them tools and opportunities necessary to transition in society and show our appreciation for the sacrifice they have given for our freedom. They deserve to be recognized for all they have done.
