CENTREVILLE — Centreville Police have identified Michael Chamberlain, 27, with a last known address of Centreville, as the suspect in the armed robbery Friday, June 3, of the Dollar General Store, 545 Railroad Ave., Centreville.

Police responded to the store at 6:10 p.m. Friday for a reported armed robbery that had just occurred. Witnesses told police a lone man entered the store and shortly thereafter grabbed a female employee, threatened her with a knife and demanded she open the cash register, police said. She complied, and the man fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash, got into a waiting vehicle and left the area, police said.

There were at least four customers in the store when the robbery occurred as well as multiple employees, police said. No injuries were reported.

The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police assisted in a search of the area for the suspect and vehicle, but were unsuccessful.

He is awaiting trail on a March 28 theft case and was previously convicted of theft.

In Friday’s case, Chamberlain is being charged with first- and second- degree assault, armed robbery and various other criminal offenses, police said. He is being held in the Kent County Detention Center.
