SANDY POINT — On Friday, May 3, the Maryland Transportation Authority Police arrested a Washington, D.C., teen who was in possession of a loaded handgun and drugs.
MDTA Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on U.S. Route 50 at the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial (Bay) Bridge toll plaza. Officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle, police said.
A subsequent search revealed a loaded 9 mm handgun, hollow point bullets and drugs, police said.
A 17-year-old male from Washington, D.C., took ownership of the gun and drugs and was arrested.
MDTA Police charged the juvenile with transporting a firearm in a motor vehicle, a person under 21 illegally possessing a regulated firearm and possession of marijuana.
After processing, officers transported the defendant to the Anne Arundel County District Court Commissioner.
