CHESTERTOWN — Santa’s visit to Church Hill was interrupted Friday evening, Dec. 21, when several of his elves were called to help a neighboring fire department put out a fire.
Crumpton Volunteer Fire Department and nearby companies responded to a call for a structure fire at 216 Merganser Dr. in Duck Neck at 7:31 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find outbuildings and a vehicle well involved.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office estimated damages to the wood-framed shed owned by Nashielly Rodriguez at $15,000 and contents at $5,000.
About 40 volunteers fought the blaze, controlling it in about 45 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The fire was reported by a neighbor and started inside the shed, according to investigators. The shed did not have a sprinkler system or smoke alarm, they said. The cause of the fire remains to be determined.
Anyone with information regarding this fire is asked to contact the Upper Eastern Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 410-822-7609.
Santa finished his rounds in Church Hill Saturday, then visited Crumpton and surrounding communities Sunday.
