I thought it would be beneficial to report on the racist rhetoric that Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department put on their sign. The sign ... reads “Be Careful Out There, All the Animals Ain’t in the Zoo.”

The term “animal” has been used against Black people for centuries and is known to be a term racists use when referring to Black people. Whether KIVFD knew it or not, this was inappropriate and uncalled for language that is divisive and racist. When I messaged them about it, they doubled down saying everyone is too sensitive these days. (Photos and Facebook comments) are being shared all over Facebook/Instagram/Twitter and people, including myself, are furious and concerned.
