Weekend fires damage house and vehicle

  • 0

CHURCH HILL — The Church Hill Volunteer Fire Department had a busy Sunday, March 22 responding to two fires with no injuries, but extensive property damage.

One occupant was also still in the residence, when units responded to a reported chimney fire with extension into the attic, in the 300 block of John Powell Road. On arrival of the CHVFD’s chief’s unit, a single story residence with light smoke showing from the roofline was observed.

Crews from Engine Tanker 5, Engine 71, and Quint 6 assisted the resident outside who did not require medical attention, and contained the fire to the area of origin with some extension into the attic. Responders had the fire under control and cleared the scene in two hours.

Later the same day, shortly after 1 p.m. fire fighters responded to a vehicle fire with exposure to a residence at 1216 Price Station Road, just east of Route 301. Engine Tanker 5 and Engine 55 arrived to find a pickup truck in the driveway fully involved.

The crews extinguished the fire and placed the situation under control in under an hour.
