MASSEY — Massey Aerodrome has announced that it will be hosting its first fly-in event in over a year on June 12.

The Potomac Antique Aero Squadron will hold its 49th Antique Airplane Fly-In from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at Massey Aerodrome, according to a news release. PAAS conducted its annual fly-ins from Horn Point for nearly 50 years until 2015, after which it moved to Massey Aerodrome.

As the only Antique Airplane Association judged event in the region it became well known for attracting the best antique airplanes, with newly rebuilt airplanes often making their first post-restoration appearance there.

Massey is proud to be chosen as the venue for this historic fly-in, the release states.

The Potomac Antique Aero Squadron was inaugurated in 1968 by a group of pilots from the western shore, but after the first few events moved to the historic Horn Point Aerodrome on the campus of the University of Maryland Horn Point Laboratories in Cambridge.

The general public and fans of aviation are invited to attend. Admission is free. Good weather will attract more than 100 antique, classic, biplanes, taildraggers and general aviation aircraft to enjoy Grassroots Aviation.

Hear the unique sound of radial engines. Tour the Massey Air Museum, DC-3 and hangars. There will be excellent photo and viewing areas overlooking the runway where attendees can watch the planes land and take off. Free Admission.

Experience “Grassroots Aviation” when tail wheels were king. Planes start arriving around 10:30 a.m., weather permitting. Food will be available on-site.
