Queenstown will hold a hearing on proposed sewer and water rate increases at 6 p.m. June 12 at the town office.

QUEENSTOWN — Queenstown Town Commissioners are considering the adoption of Ordinance 19-03 to increase the monthly water and sewage usage rate by 5 percent for the next three fiscal years.

The ordinance, introduced May 24, would take affect July 1, 2019 and end July 1, 2022. According to the proposal, commissioners “have determined that it is in the public interest to amend the water and sewer charges to increase the monthly usage rates ... to enable the town to meet its operation, maintenance, and debt service obligations.”

New rates include a monthly water debt fee of $8.34, a monthly sewer debt fee of $36.66, a monthly Bay Restoration Fee set by the state, which is currently $5.

Additional fees include a turn-on and turn-off fee of $35, a new account setup and start meter reading fee of $25, a close account and final meter reading for $25, and an off-cycle meter reading fee of $25.

Monthly volumetric water charges for the first 7,000 gallons on July 1 is $2.93 with rates rising to $3.08 on July 1, 2020. July 1, 2021 will see the same water usage rise to $3.23.

Water usage between 7,000 and 15,000 gallons will cost $3.26 on July 1, 2019, $3.42 on July 1, 2020, and $3.59 on July 1, 2021.

Any usage over 15,000 gallons will be $4.06 on July 1, 2019, $4.26 on July 1, 2020, and $4.47 on July 1, 2021.

Sewer usage charges for the first 7,000 gallons will cost $7.75 on July 1, 2019, $8.14 on July 1, 2020, and $8.55 on July 1, 2021.

Usage from 7,000 to 15,000 will cost $8.61 on July 1, 2019, $9.04 on July 1, 2020, and $9.49 on July 1, 2021.

Usage over 15,000 gallons totals $10.77 on July 1, 2019, $11.31 on July 1, 2020, and $11.87 on July 1 2021.

A pubic hearing on Ordinance 19-03 will be held Wednesday, June 12, at 6 p.m. at the Queenstown town office.
