STEVENSVILLE — This Thursday, July 2, at the Kent Island Farmers Market (weather permitting), Plastic Free Queen Anne's County will hand out free washable grocery bags local residents can use when they go shopping. The mission of Plastic Free QAC is to engage, inform and inspire county residents to make more environmentally responsive choices, reduce litter and stop using single-use plastic.
Plastic Free QAC received its first CBTrust Community Outreach Mini-Grant this past November. This grant includes hands-on art workshops for children at county libraries, which have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and school closings. Several other deliveries have also been delayed as well until further restrictions are lifted, so the organization is adapting by offering presentations via ZOOM and now offering free "Education in a Bag" giveaways at the KI Farmers Market. Plastic Free QAC will continue the bag give-away while supplies last.
Through outreach and partnership, Plastic Free QAC holds presentations and workshops for residents and businesses around recycling and sustainable choices, conducts monthly road and waterway clean ups, and provides reusable bags and recycling information at community events and grocery stores.
At the Farmer's Market, look for the tent with "Plastic Free QA."
