CENTREVILLE — Maryland State Police on Thursday, Sept. 10, arrested a Centreville man they say allegedly sexually abused a girl for several years beginning nearly two decades ago. Police allege the abuse started when the girl was 12 years old.
Investigators with the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, Upper Shore Region, identified the suspect as William Newsome, 56, following an investigation into a report filed in January 2019.
Police said an allegation was made against Newsome, claiming that his alleged sexual abuse of a child began in the early 2000s and continued for several years.
Newsome was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor, third- and fourth-degree sex offenses and second-degree assault. He was taken to the MSP Centreville Barrack for processing, and subsequently was ordered held without bond, according to court records.
Newsome is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing at 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 7.
