MILLINGTON — Grace Sweetak was awarded a $2,000 scholarship, as part of the annual Harry R. Rasin Memorial Scholarship program of the Millington Lions Club.

A check for $500 was presented at the Lions Club dinner meeting, June 26, at the Two Tree Restaurant.

Sweetak will receive three more annual installments of $500. She is a 2019 graduate of Queen Anne’s County High School, where she was ranked number four in the class of 2019 with a weighted GPA of 4.3333.

While in school she was active in athletics (lacrosse, cross country), National Honor Society (president this year) and member of the Future Business Leaders of America, among other things.

She plans to attend Rollins College at Winter Park, Fla., and major in physics.

In addition, at the club’s meeting June 12, at the Community Fire Company of Millington fire hall, Kent County High School graduates Daniel Mitzel and Joshua Thompson each were presented $500 one-time scholarships, as was Queen Anne’s County High School graduate Melyn Rhodes.

The Millington Lions Club’s Harry R. Rasin Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student or students from the Millington area who meet high academic and community standards. Funding for the award is derived from various fundraisers throughout each year. The scholarship was named for the late Harry R. Rasin, who for many years was the principal of Millington High School.

The scholarship program was started by Frank Embert in 1995. Since that time, the club has given out 47 scholarships worth a total of $61,500.
