STEVENSVILLE — The 16th annual Free Kids Fishing Derby, sponsored by Kent Island Elks Lodge 2576 and the Natural Resources Police Reserve Officers Association, will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at Terrapin Park pond for ages 3 to 15. The event will be held rain or shine.

Same-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with activities from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bring a bucket; catch and release only. No artificial fish tackle, and everyone uses the same bait (blood worms, provided for free). All lines out of the water by 11 a.m.

Children must accompanied by an adult who brought them at all times. Loaner fishing rods will be provided by Bass Pro Shops.

Following the contest, a free lunch with soft drinks will be provided. The is a “Most Patriotic Dress” contest for adults and children, so wear your red, white and blue. Activities include Elks Drug Awareness Trailer, Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s K-9 demonstration, Department of Natural Resources K-9 and water safety, and silent auction.

Following the lunch, awards in several different fishing categories.
