STEVENSVILLE — Kent Island Elks, Lodge 2576, has announced the annual July 4th Kidds Fishing Derby has been postponed until September.

“We have to move the date this year to Sept. 14 due to too many of our volunteers not being available this July 4,” said a statement from the lodge.

The annual Fishing Derby has been hosted by the KI Elks and Maryland Natural Resource Reserve Officers for the past 15 consecutive years, always on July 4 with two exceptions. The years when July 4 fell on Sunday, the fishing derby was held July 3 so as not to interfere with children and their parents attending church.

On Sept. 14 registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with actvities and fishing from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the freshwater pond at near Terrapin Park in the Chesapeake Bay Business Park.
