GRASONVILLE — While the Friends of the Library accept donations of gently used books, CDs, and DVDs throughout the year at Kent Island and Centreville libraries, a lack of storage space limits the amount of donations the Friends can generally manage.
From now through August, though, the Friends are able to accept donations of large collections of books at an offsite storage facility. Just pull your car up to the U-Haul Storage center on one of three Book Donation Days, and load all of your books onto a cart to be taken away.
Donation Days are scheduled for Saturdays, June 15, July 20 and Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The location is at U-Haul Storage, 461 Pullman Crossing in Grasonville. Signs will direct you to the donation spot. Please review guidelines at www.friendsofqaclibrary.org/book-sales/ for acceptable donations. Donors will be expected to dispose of any materials which don’t meet the donation criteria.
Books collected on Book Donation Days will stock the Friends Used Book Nooks in Kent Island and Centreville libraries, as well as the Friends Annual Book Sale in August. The sales of these books are a major source of income for the Friends and allow the Friends to provide ongoing financial support to library programming.
Over the past five years, the Friends have donated more than $80,000 to Queen Anne’s County Library and are funding the current Summer Reading programs.
