CENTREVILLE — Local author Carol Franks-Randall of Centreville has created a YouTube video reading one of her children’s picture books, “Jamal and Me.” This video can be accessed at https://carolfranksrandall.com/just-for-kids/.
“I thought it might be helpful to parents and kids if they were able to hear a story from a different voice,” Franks-Randall said. “Children can also go to my website at https://carolfranksrandall.com/just-for-kids/ and download ‘Jamal and Me’ coloring sheets.
“The website also includes book reviews and tips for aspiring writers that students might benefit from. I know that some kids are working on “passion projects”, so if they have a desire to do some writing, they might find some of my tips helpful.”
In addition to “Jamal and Me,” a semi-autobiographical book about a boy who struggles with relocating from the city to the suburbs (published in 2017), Franks-Randall has also written “Playground Heroes,” which highlights two kind and courageous girls who take on bullies on the playground (published in 2018), and “Talking Buddies” (published in 2019), which focuses on a boy who moves to the United States from a Spanish-speaking country and all of the challenges he faces.
All three books are appropriate for ages 4-9.
A retired educator from New York, Franks-Randall has worked as a teacher, principal, superintendent and college instructor. She and her husband Robert relocated to Maryland’s Eastern Shore in 2009.
