CENTREVILLE — The new Dollar Tree store, where “Everything’s $1,” opened at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. The store is next door to the Centreville Food Lion and Price & Gannon Ace Hardware in the spot formerly occupied by Family Dollar, which closed about a month ago.

The store sells everything for $1 or less. Food items, like Cool Whip or a dozen eggs. Reading glasses, and sun glasses, $1 each. Hallmark cards are two for $1 and “one of the most popular items in the store,” according to District Manager Cindy Pusey of Kent Island.

Pusey oversees stores in Maryland and Delaware and three in New Jersey. She said, “Dollar Tree has over 15,000 locations across the U.S., and the store name has been around for 50 years.”

The store has cookware and cooking utensils galore, a huge number of cleaning supplies, a large assortment of candies, reading books, plastic storage items, beauty, hair care, baby supplies, bath accessories, apparel, laundry closet storage and a travel-size item area. There are picture frames, floral supplies, electronics, lighting, automotive, hardware, and pet supplies. Gift wrap and gift bags, party supplies, catering supplies, and seasonal decorations abound. Halloween decorations are in the store right now.

The store is clearly for shoppers who look to buy necessities and save money by comparing prices. In some cases, the price differences are huge. Believe it or not, Dollar Tree offers discounts, a 1 percent cash back on all purchases to their “Ebate” members, which includes emailed coupons and promo codes. Just go online to register to be an Ebate member.

There are already Dollar Tree stores nearby, one on Kent Island in the Kent Towne Market in Chester, and others nearby in Chestertown, Denton and Easton.

Dale Day is the store manager. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The phone number for the Centreville store is 410-758-0230.
