To the editor: We biked into town on Saturday to enjoy DownRigging and the attendant festivities and nautical displays at the harbor, planning to grab lunch "in the tent," enjoying the bluegrass music.
The crowds at the "tent" appeared lighter than in prior years, regardless of the perfect weather, and notwithstanding busloads of out-of-towners.
Sticker shock! Mere entry to the tent cost $20 per person, and while that drove us away, the food stands therein were reported likewise "very expensive." We were even more surprised to find area (former years) "lunch sources" had been "strongly encouraged" to not serve that day.
Not wishing to spend $50+ just for lunch and a couple hot dogs and sodas, we biked back home.
The "promoters" may just take away more profits were the price of entry to be more in-line with Chestertown resident’s pocketbooks?
