Pet of the Week

Jack is a cat in need of a good home. For more information, contact the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County at 410-778-3648 or

If you are in the market for a cuddly, affectionate, only-sometimes-evasive cloud, then Jack is the cat for you!

Jack is a 3-year-old fluff ball who loves to be loved. He may be shy when you first meet him, but sit on the floor with him for 60 seconds and he’ll be melting in your lap.

Jack’s favorite pastimes include ear "scritches," chin "scritches," back "scritches" ... Well, all the “scritches."

He loves to fall asleep in peoples laps, and will even get a tad cranky when someone tries to move him. Can you really blame him? He’s just excited to get some love.

Jack is FIV+, but that doesn’t make him any less of a cat.

“FIV” stands for “feline immunodeficiency virus” just as “HIV” stands for “human immunodeficiency virus.” In fact, these two viruses are closely related, but cats cannot infect humans, and vice versa.

While his diagnosis is unfortunate, it doesn’t mean he can’t lead a long happy life. It just means that he’ll need a family who will take care of him if he becomes sick, as well as a family that has lots of love to give.

Fill out an application at and visit him anytime from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The shelter is located at 10720 Augustine Herman Highway outside Chestertown.
