CAMDEN, N.J. — Washington opened the season with a program-record third consecutive win by shutout Saturday, courtesy of a pair of Erin O’Reilly first-half goals.
The Shore ladies booted their hosts from Rutgers-Camden, 2-0, with keepers Noah Smith and Annalie Buscarino needing to make only three saves.
O’Reilly netted what held up as the winning goal in the third minute, scoring on a breakaway after receiving a through pass from Gillian Slavick. This was O’Reilly’s third goal in as many matches.
The insurance goal came in the 31st minute, Cayla Marcinko finding O’Reilly in the box.
The Scarlet Raptors’ only shot on goal in the first half came with 8 seconds remaining, and was saved by Buscarino.
They had a shot in the 20th minute that rattled off the crossbar.
Washington finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots, which included a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.
Saturday’s match, with an 11 a.m. start time, was postponed from Wednesday night, Sept. 4 due to persistent lightning.
