Kent Honkers receive 'Starter Kit' through US Lacrosse grant

WORTON — Registration has opened for Kent Honkers Lacrosse youth program for boys and girls. Practices for the 8U through 14U age groups will begin March 9; practices for the younger Scoopers will begin April 1.

Players, coaches and spectators will be required to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines related to COVID-19, according to a spokesperson for the Honkers program.

The age groups are: Scoopers, pre-K and kindergarten; 8U, first and second grades; 10U, third and fourth grades; 12U, fifth and sixth grades; and 14U, seventh and eighth grades.

Kent Honkers Lacrosse has received a Starter Kit Package grant through US Lacrosse’s First Stick program. The goal is to grow the sport by reducing financial and other barriers.

The Starter Kit Package provides 30 lacrosse sticks, two dozen soft practice balls and two 3’x3’ goals to help organizations introduce the sport to new players. Starter Kit grants also include complimentary US Lacrosse membership for up to two adult coaches and up to 30 new youth players.

Kent Honkers Lacrosse is a member of US Lacrosse and the Eastern Shore Youth Lacrosse Association. It is a nonprofit “dedicated to teaching our youth the fundamentals and spirit of the great sport of lacrosse in a fun and sportsmanlike way,” according to its website.
