CAMBRIDGE — The Trojans travel today to Cambridge for the opening round of the Class 1A East Region I softball tournament with an opportunity to avenge last month's 7-6 loss at home and to surpass last year's win total.Â
"If we have healthy bodies, limit errors and hit the ball, it should be a competitive game," Kent County head coach Michelle Phillips wrote in a text message Tuesday.
She has a tiny team of only 10 players and a young team of only one senior.
Kent (4-13) went 1-2 in the final week of the regular season. The win against similarly challenged Class 1A Crisfield is more significant than the two losses against larger Class 2A foes Kent Island and Easton.
Kent is the No. 5 seed in the Region I bracket.
Cambridge (7-11) is the No. 4 seed.
The winner of the Kent-Cambridge game will travel to top seed North Dorchester (17-1) on Monday.
No. 2 seed Colonel Richardson (13-5) will host No. 3 seed St. Michaels (8-10) ) in the other semifinal.
North Dorchester, Colonel Richardson and St. Michaels all received first-round byes.
The Region I championship game is Wednesday, May 17 at the higher seed.
