SNOW HILL — Freshman Andrew Buckel and junior Jack Spray each established a personal best in the 1600 meters at last week’s indoor track meet at the Worcester County Recreation Center. They no doubt have benefited from their experiences of the fall cross country season, when Buckel was the Trojans’ most valuable runner.
Spray stopped the timer in 5 minutes, 49.73 seconds to place 30th, with Buckel seven spots back in 6:20.99.
Overall, there were 40 boys in the race.
As has become the rule, the meet on Jan. 11 was a large meet with 24 schools from Maryland and Delaware.
Many of the individual events had 30-plus entries.
Under the heading of what coach Kim Gibson described as “notable events,” Spray led his heat of 16 entries in the 800 meters with a PR of 2:34.53, and placed 22nd overall among 35 entries; David Daniels, Gavin Larrimore and DeAndre Redding competed for the first time in relays; Larrimore made his debut in the shot put; and Trice Moore had a personal best of 30 feet, 4.75 inches in the shot put.
Gibson continued to applaud the Trojans’ work ethic.
She wrote in an email: “We had a hard practice Monday (Jan. 9) and we’ve been incorporating the weight room and agility drills. The athletes showed up, worked hard and have proven to be committed by wanting longer and more frequent practices.”
