CHESTERTOWN — Washington's sailors punched their ticket to the conference’s fall coed dinghy championship with a fifth-place finish Oct. 24 in the Henry Luce Trophy regatta that they hosted.

The top six place-finishers advance to the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s championship regatta, also known as the War Memorial.

The Oct. 23-24 regatta on the Chester River drew a fleet of 17 schools.

Webb Institute (69 points) led the way.

Christopher Newport (75), Princeton (91), Virginia Tech (97), Washington (120) and William and Mary (144) also qualified for the MAISA fall championship.

For Washington, junior skipper Stewart Gurnell and a crew of junior Andrew Tran (races 1-2), sophomore Megan Callis (races 3-6) and sophomore Kennedy Jones (race 7-9) were third in the A Division. They had a pair of runner-up finishes.

In the B Division, sophomore skipper Camden Ward and junior crew Emma Macturk placed seventh. They won the fifth race.
