CHESTERTOWN — John Nostrant and Kevin Giblin, who were teammates on three national runner-up men’s lacrosse teams at Washington College, will be inducted together into the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
The NICLA will honor Nostrant, Giblin and eight others Nov. 12 at the Plandome Country Club in Plandome, New York.
Nostrant ’86 just completed his first year as head coach at alma mater Washington, while Giblin ’85 has been the assistant coach/defensive coordinator for three years at Division I Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg.
Nostrant was a high school coach for more than 30 years, most recently at Gilman School in Baltimore (2020-21).
Before that he spent 28 years at the Haverford School in Pennsylvania, which he built into a powerhouse. In addition to his lacrosse duties, he was the director of athletics at Haverford for 22 years.
Nostrant also had been an assistant and then head coach at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C.
His Haverford teams won 490 games and earned 13 Inter-Academic League (Inter-Ac) regular-season championships, four Inter-Ac tournament titles and two state championships.
Nostrant’s 2011 and 2015 teams finished their seasons undefeated and ranked No. 1 nationally. He was named National High School Coach of the Year in 2015.
He also served as an assistant coach for the USA under-19 team that won the gold medal in the 2008 World Championship.
Nostrant began his coaching career as an assistant at alma mater Washington, from 1986 to 1989.
He matriculated to Washington from C. W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, New York, where he had been an outstanding football, basketball and lacrosse player.
He was a four-year star here, and captained Washington’s 1986 team that lost to then-Division III heavyweight Hobart in the national championship game, 13-10.
Washington also lost to Hobart in the NCAA finals in 1984 (12-5) and 1985 (15-8). Nostrant and Giblin played key roles on those teams.
A three-time All-American, Nostrant was inducted into the Washington College athletic hall of fame in 2002.
Giblin was a two-time captain for the Shoremen.
He has been inducted into the Potomac Chapter of US Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Georgetown Preparatory School Hall of Fame.
He came to Mount St. Mary’s after a storied career as a high school coach, compiling more than 450 wins at Georgetown Prep (Bethesda) and Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, Va.) — and a pair of national titles at Georgetown Prep.
He is an 11-time high school conference coach of the year.
The NILCA seeks to honor coaches whose mentorship and groundbreaking coaching careers have left an indelible mark on the high school game of lacrosse.
