CHESTERTOWN — A pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday evening, Jan. 6 in Chestertown. Maryland State Police responded to the accident where a female victim sustained a fatal head injury. According to reports the incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in the area of 6346 Church Hill Road, near Milano’s Pizzeria.
Police said a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 74-year-old Douglas Baker, Jr of Hamilton, Texas was traveling northbound on Rt. 213 south of Rt. 544 when the vehicle struck Michelle Marie Barret of Middletown, Del, age 46.
Baker was accompanied by one passenger, 63-year-old Karen Baker, identified as his wife. Barret appeared to be walking across the travel portion of the roadway at the time of the accident, police said.
Investigating trooper TFC John Tucker reported life-saving measures were attempted on scene by EMS, but ultimately the injuries sustained were incompatible with life and Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither Baker sustained serious injury.
A post-crash inspection was completed at the time and MSP is continuing their investigation into the accident.
