STILL POND — Francisco Javier Martinez, 22, York, Pa., and his 17-year-old female passenger were airlifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on Sept. 4 following a single-vehicle crash with rollover at about 10:30 p.m.

They were treated and released.

Martinez was charged with numerous traffic offenses after leading police on a high-speed chase. The charges include aggressive driving; negligent driving; reckless driving; unsafe lane changing; failure to control vehicle speed to avoid a collision; driving on a suspended license; and exceeding the posted speed limit.

Sgt. Sean Maloney reported that he attempted to stop the driver, subsequently identified as Martinez, for alleged traffic offenses on state Route 290 just before entering the town of Galena. The driver failed to obey Sgt. Maloney's emergency equipment and a high-speed chase ensued, according to a sheriff's office news release.

It is alleged that Martinez turned off the vehicle's headlights during the pursuit.

The pursuit continued on southbound state Route 213 into Kennedyville. Martinez then turned around and drove northbound on Route 213 before turning onto westbound state Route 298, police reported.

Traffic was light during the pursuit, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Martinez drove onto Medders Lane in Still Pond and then turned onto Rosedale Cannery Road, where he failed to maneuver the turn. His vehicle ultimately crashed and overturned at least once before coming to rest on its roof, according to the news release.

Police reported that Martinez was ejected.

A handgun was located during a search of the vehicle, according to police.
