To the editor: Iwas thrilled last week to read that Mr. Ramsey and I have finally come to an agreement on something. His closing words, “It seems there are forces that want compromise to fail," could not be more true.
Blurring fact and opinion is the very basis of propaganda, and, in my opinion, it is the propaganda stoked by partisanship and identity politics, further fueled by respective media mouthpieces that make up a large part of these forces. It applies to all sides of the political spectrum.
Mr. Ramsey implies that the opinions of the “Republican Ladies” have no basis in fact — just rhetoric to instill fear of a progressive agenda. He draws an analogy to the McCarthy era as if to say, there was never any reason to be concerned about communism. He rightfully condemns the Trump-incited Capitol riots.
But, I have to ask, what is a person supposed to think when “progressive” agenda politicians incite BLM riots or refuse to condemn illegal protests and even violent threats against Supreme Court justices who are deciding a case?
What is a person supposed to think when biological males can unfairly compete in women’s’ sporting events?
What is a person supposed to think when they are taught in school that they are guilty of racism just because they were born white?
Flag waving, bumper sticker virtue signaling, the amplification and weaponization of these and many other concerns (on both sides) in the name of freedom, democracy, constitutionality and every other self-righteous ideal are the realities that make compromise very difficult to achieve.
