CHESTERTOWN — Norman Lyn VanSant of Rock Hall, Md. died on Jan. 11, 2021 at home. He was 80.

He was born in Rock Hall, Md., the son of the late Scott Hilsboro and Maywood Elizabeth Taylor VanSant. Lyn graduated from Rock Hall High School, Class of 1958 and served in the U.S. Navy stateside from 1958 to 1962 when he was honorably discharged. He lived in Rock Hall where he worked with General Motors as an assemblyman and truck operator for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He then went to work with Middletown High School as custodian for 10 years and retired again in 2002. He was married to JoAnn Jones for 44 years.

Lyn was a member of Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228 in Rock Hall, Md. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and making model boats and carving decoys.

He is survived by a son, Frederick Shawn (Denise) VanSant of Middletown, Del.; a daughter, Camee Lynn (Dale) Hurd of Townsend, Del.; a brother, Larry Crouch of Rock Hall, Md.; a sister, Joyce Gagalski of Rock Hall, Md.; grandchildren Megan, Brandon, Courtney and Ryan; along with his fiancée of 15 years, Liz Peacock of Chestertown, Md.; and dear friend Irene.

He was predeceased by a sister, Faye Collyer; and his stepfather Granville Crouch.

A memorial service followed by military honors was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Sgt. Preston Ashley Legion Post #228 at 21423 E. Sharp St., Rock Hall, MD 21661.
