GALENA — LeVerne Carroll Kohl of Galena, Md. passed away on July 7, 2021 at the age of 88. Verne, as he was known to all, was born in Shillington, Pa. on Jan. 30, 1933.

In 1956, Verne established Angelica Nurseries in Kent County, Md. He was the driving force behind Angelica Nurseries and was the face of the nursery for years. Through his tireless work ethic, he was responsible for what the nursery is today. Not many think of Angelica Nurseries without thinking of Verne Kohl as one and the same. For decades, Verne worked side by side with his two brothers and two nephews. Angelica remains a family business.

Verne was a veteran of the U.S. Army, an accomplished stone mason, designer and draftsman. He loved fishing and living on the Sassafras River, where he made his longtime home a peaceful sanctuary. He was known throughout the community for always being willing to do what he could for anyone.

Private services were held for Verne at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech on Sunday, July 11.
