ROCK HALL — The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) who burglarized a business near here last week.

Among the items taken was a safe containing a substantial amount of money, said Lt. Stuart Lodge, commander of the sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 410-778-2279.

Lt. Lodge identified the business as Bayside Gas, located in the 22000-block of McKinleyville Road.

The owner reported the break-in Jan. 1 at about 11 a.m. after returning from a service call, according to Lodge.

Initially it appeared that the burglary occurred between 6 and 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day, but investigators have not ruled out the possibility that it occurred the night before, Lodge said.

There was evidence of forced entry at the back door, according to police.

Lodge said the safe was light enough that one person could have carried it.
