CHESTERTOWN — In a rural county still struggling to provide internet access to every home, one Wi-Fi company has pulled up stakes and moved out.

Cambio WiFi is terminating its services in Kent County. The provider tapped into local fiber optic lines and, using equipment placed high up on water towers, broadcast wireless signals to customers.

In a telephone interview Jan. 29, Stephen J. Kirby Jr., founder and president of Cambio WiFi, said the company is trying to connect its customers with other area providers BridgeMAXX, Tidewater Wifi and ThinkBig.

He said equipment currently on customers’ homes belongs to Cambio Wifi and someone from the company will be out to retrieve it.
