CHESTERTOWN — Capt. Dennis Hickman, chief deputy of the Kent County Sheriff's Office, examines a patrol cruiser that sustained heavy damage in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning, Feb. 10. Police reported that Deputy Ryan Price, foreground, was driving the sheriff's office 2014 Dodge Charger eastbound on state Route 20 when his vehicle was struck at the intersection at Bakers Lane by a Nissan Ultima operated by Judson Thomas Williams III, 70, of Chestertown. Williams, who was driving westbound on Route 20, struck the deputy's vehicle when he attempted a left-hand turn onto Bakers Lane, according to police. The KCSO vehicle traveled off the right side of Route 20 and came to rest in a muddy field. Williams' car stopped in the intersection. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. No injuries were reported. The Maryland State Police is investigating. Williams was taken to the MSP barrack in Centreville under suspicion of driving while impaired, according to police.
Jason Patterson’s exhibit “On the Black History of Kent County & Washington College” is fully available for viewing online at chesapeakeheartland.org. The exhibit was two years in the making, Patterson says in his artist’s statement, and explores the history of the Black experience in the county as a means to explain the Black experience in the present day.

In a picture taken nearly a year ago, members of Washington College’s Black Student Union lead a protest down the Cater Walk and into the Gibson Center for the Arts, where George Washington’s 2020 Birthday Convocation was being held. Sumner Hall is celebrating Black History Month this year with events all month including a display at the Bordley Center that highlights last year’s demonstration in support of the Black Lives Matter social justice movement.

Street Lute, with jockey Xavier Perez aboard, captured the $100,000 Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship on Dec. 5 for trainer John “Jerry” Robb. She was bred by veterinarian Dr. Tom Bowman, his wife Chris Bowman and their son Dr. Brooke Bowman, also a veterinarian, of Dance Forth Farm, Chestertown.
