CHESTERTOWN — Al Hammer, right, is recognized by the Kent County Commissioners during a meeting Tuesday for 44 year career as a public servant with 23 of those years spent working in the county’s Public Works Department, Roads Division. After retiring from the U.S. Coast Guard, Hammer was hired as a motor Equipment Operator in October 1997. He was promoted to the roads supervisor position in 2014. Hammer worked through storms including hurricanes Floyd and Isabel as well as several “snowmageddons” and ice storms. With Hammer are from left, commissioners Bob Jacob, Ron Fithian and Tom Mason, president.
