WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., announced on July 10 the appointments of Maryland high school students from the Mid-Shore to the U.S. Service Academies Class of 2023.

“The choice to serve our country carries with it great responsibility, sacrifice and honor, Van Hollen said. “Each of these students has demonstrated an outstanding work ethic and integrity and will make a valuable contribution to our service academies.”

“I applaud their decision to choose this path, and I was proud to support their efforts,” he said. “I look forward to seeing the great things these young men and women will do in the years ahead.”

The Mid-Shore appointees are: Mason MacKenzie of Henderson, United States Naval Academy; Elise Lindsay of Chestertown, United States Naval Academy; Fiona Mulligan of Stevensville, United States Naval Academy; and Sunrae Sturmer of Preston, United States Merchant Marine Academy.
