CHESTERTOWN — At the first council meeting of the new year Jan. 4, Mayor David Foster announced the winners of Chestertown’s annual holiday decorating contest.

The first- and second-place entries in each of the town’s four wards and commercial district receive $50 and $25, respectively. Council members chose the winners in their wards.

This was the last official act by council members Sam Shoge (First Ward) and Ellsworth Tolliver (Third Ward), whose terms ended with the swearing in of their successors Tuesday morning, Jan. 4.

First Ward: Andrew and Sarah Wright, 332 N. Queen St., first; and Vincent Bruce, 221 Philosophers Terrace, second.

Second Ward: Jim Bogden and Charles Taylor, 219 Calvert St., first; and Marge Slama, 206 Mount Vernon Ave., second.

Third Ward: Geoffrey King, 200 Devon Drive, first; and Harold Somerville, 311 Roosevelt Drive, second.

Fourth Ward: Janet Davies (Family Trust), 202 E. Campus Ave., first; and William and Sheila Lepter, 201 Glen St., second.

Businesses: Cross Street Realtors, 201 S. Cross St., first; and Chestertown Natural Foods, 303 Cannon St., second.
