Health foundation postpones golf fundraiser

CHESTERTOWN — Citing uncertainty about the length of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, University of Maryland Chester River Health Foundation of Shore Regional Health has moved its annual golf tournament fundraiser to Friday, Sept. 25.

The announcement was made Thursday, March 19 in a news release.

"We are very grateful to the Chester River Yacht & Country Club for its flexibility and graciousness," said Maryann Ruehrmund, the foundation's executive director.

Tournament proceeds will be earmarked for a new, $250,000 telemetry system for 10 inpatient suites at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown.

A telemetry system is an indispensable technology, which continuously measures and monitors specific vital signs at the bedside as well as during patient transport. This capability is fundamental to taking care of patients, especially those with heart conditions.

"This tournament plays an important role in not only raising funds but communicating the capabilities of our hospital's equipment to our community," Ruehrmund said.
