Lighthouse launches July 4 fireworks picnic raffle

Raffle tickets are now on sale to watch fireworks at a July 4th catered picnic at the Choptank River Lighthouse in Cambridge.

CAMBRIDGE — Tickets are now available for the chance to win a celebration of the upcoming Independence Day holiday. The winner of the annual Choptank River Lighthouse raffle will enjoy a catered picnic for 20 guests at the lighthouse on the waterfront in Cambridge on the night of the city’s 4th of July Fireworks show.

Located at Long Wharf, the Lighthouse is just upriver from Great Marsh Park, where the fireworks are launched.

“It’s about the best view in town on fireworks night,” said Trevor Carouge of Provident State Bank, who serves on the raffle committee of the nonprofit Cambridge Lighthouse Foundation. “Whoever wins this raffle is going to make their family and friends very, very happy come Independence Day.”

Raffle tickets cost $10 each, or 3 for $25. They are available for purchase by cash or check only at:

  • The Visitors Center at Sailwinds Park East, 2 Rose Hill Place, Cambridge
  • The Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, 528 Poplar Street, Cambridge
  • The Choptank River Lighthouse at Long Wharf (Friday afternoons, Saturdays, and Sundays only)
  • By mail through Cambridge Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 1235, Cambridge, MD 21613

The drawing will be held in mid-June, so the last day for in-person sales is Friday, June 14. Mail orders should be postmarked by Mon., June 10.

The picnic-style menu will be provided by Jimmie & Sook’s restaurant, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary in downtown Cambridge and specializes in Maryland crab and southern BBQ dishes. Non-alcoholic beverages are also included in the prize package.

Proceeds from the raffle support the nonprofit Cambridge Lighthouse Foundation, which manages the experience visitors have at the Choptank River Lighthouse and works to connect those visitors with other attractions and businesses in our community. The foundation’s volunteer Lighthouse “keepers” are on hand to welcome visitors on Friday afternoons, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
