CAMBRIDGE — The Board of Directors of the Pine Street Committee Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard M. Potter Jr. as the organization’s first executive director of The Octavene Saunders Empowerment Center.

“We’re elated and pleased that Richard has taken on this leadership role,” said Carlton Stanley, board president. “Richard comes to The Octavene Saunders Empowerment Center with a wealth of experience that I believe will be beneficial to the organization’s growth as we move forward in this next chapter of providing services that will benefit our entire community, especially the Pine Street community.”

Potter joins as a seasoned leader with a background in diversity, equity and inclusion and a passion for investing in today’s youth to build the leaders of tomorrow. He brings an innovative approach and expertise in organization building to the Empowerment Center through his past experience engaging community partners, developing educational programming, and leading organizations through strategic growth.

Most recently, Potter served as the program coordinator for the Multicultural Student Services area at Salisbury University. Before that, he worked at Dorchester County Public Schools as the college and career readiness specialist/GEAR UP coordinator where he created educational programming aimed at increasing the college access and success for high school students.

“As a proud and long-time community leader, I have been privileged to witness firsthand the impact of creating programs that engage all citizens that yields a stronger community. Together, we can build a bright tomorrow for our community and it is in this spirit that I begin my work at the Empowerment Center. I am excited to lead this organization from its grassroots beginning to its next chapter where we are deliberate and intentional in building organizational capacity in an effort to provide greater service to our community,” Potter said.

“The Pine Street Committee Inc., through The Octavene Saunders Empowerment Center, has a strong vision of providing high-quality programming to the Pine Street Community and the Dorchester County community at-large, it will be through this vision that we develop our programs that will produce life-changing results,” he continued. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated, passionate volunteers who have selflessly given of their time and talents to reinforce lifelong-learning and a commitment to developing personal and professional growth for all.”

Pine Street Committee Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization. Its mission is to be an ongoing resource for children and adults, to improve their lives and to help them grow and reach their dreams. The Committee works in partnership with the community to provide youth development through education, skills training, mentoring and other support services. Additionally, it strives to inspire confidence, self-esteem, a desire for lifelong learning and to contribute to the health and well-being of the City of Cambridge’s youth and community.
