CAMBRIDGE — A Cambridge man faces drug charges after allegedly crashing his car and attempting to flee from police on foot on Thursday, Jan. 7, near East New Market.

Dorchester Sheriff Jimmy Phillips said a deputy on patrol in the East New Market area attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Kevon Jamar Spencer of Cambridge for speeding.

Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated in an attempt to get away. The chase ended at the intersection of Route 16 and Old Stagecoach Road when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and spun out.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot, but was captured after a brief foot chase. The suspect was found to be in possession of heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with numerous traffic charges and possession, and released by a court commissioner pending trial.
