Gutted cars show the damage caused by the fire

A fire in Hurlock, late in the evening Nov. 20, spread from one vehicle to another before reaching the owner’s residence.

HURLOCK —A fire that began in one vehicle destroyed another vehicle and damaged a home on River Road in Hurlock late Wednesday, Nov. 20. The fire began in the engine compartment of the first vehicle, a 2010 Kia Sportage, and spread to a 2007 Kia Sportage and a single family dwelling, according to a report from the State Fire Marshall. The owner discovered the accidental fire at 11:16 p.m. The blaze took ten firefighters from Hurlock Fire Department 15 minutes to control, and did damage estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $1,000 to the contents. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
