CAMBRIDGE — Merrymakers in downtown Cambridge celebrated New Years Eve with the third annual Boat Drop near the Crab Basket Tree at the corner of Race Street and Gay Street. The Groove City Lady made her way down the more than 60 feet of track twice on New Year’s Eve — once for a crowd with many kids at 8 p.m., and again at midnight for an equally jovial crowd. In each instance, Capt. Brian Roche, sent the workboat with the 4-foot keel down the the track to her berth at a pace that would be the envy of any boat docking contestant.
