Shore Shakespeare Company announces its annual 2019 tour of The Merchant of Venice. All shows are free of charge for audiences. The tour runs August 30th through September 14th in venues in Centreville, Oxford and Cambridge. Friday and Saturday shows are at 6pm and Sunday is at 5pm. Audiences are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy while watching the performances.

This years play, considered both a problem play and a comedy, is one of Shakespeare's more controversial works. Set in 16th century Venice, it is on the surface a romantic comedy featuring a love tested by obstacles placed in the paths of the lovers. But the play also examines the darker themes of intolerance, tribalism, betrayal and revenge-personified by the characters Antonio a Christian merchant and Shylock a Jewish money lender. The company's production features a strong and talented cast of actors from across the mid shore. For detailed tour information including tour venues, visit our website at or on Facebook at
