The Federalsburg Historical Society will hold a Candlelight Tour at the historic house, Exeter, on Saturday, December 7 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.  Come and enjoy this free event and tour one of the oldest remaining structures in the southern part of Caroline County.  Exeter is located in the Walkertown area on the Old Denton Road in Federalsburg, MD.

Robert and Mary Holt purchased the house in 1967 and began to restore the home back to its earliest appearance.  All of the woodwork is original and is particularly fine.  After much work was done on the house, and with a great deal of research, Exeter, circa1808, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1978.

Further structural and cosmetic renovations resumed in 2002 and after the house had descended to Mary’s son and daughter in 2011, the property was deeded to the Federalsburg Historical Society by the Holt Family Trust.

It was always Mary Holt’s dream to open Exeter as a museum to the public.  The Historical Society continues to make improvements and offers open houses and tours allowing the public to view this local historic landmark.
