WORTON - Kent Island High's boys' cross-country team placed five in the top-10 Wednesday to win the season-opening North Bayside meet at Kent County High.
Sophomore Nikolai Rhodes clocked a first-place time of 16 minutes, 22 seconds and was followed by teammates Anthony Carroll (3rd, 17:11), Joe Kelly (5th, 17:22), Daniel Caldwell (6th, 17:29) and Ryan Clocker (8th, 17:51). The Buccaneers totaled 23 points 31 points ahead of second-place Cambridge-South Dorchester.
The Vikings placed three in the top 10: Jeffrey Condon (2nd, 16:48), Justin Hand (4th, 17:21) and Jeffrey Koletsky (10th, 18:06).
Queen Anne's finished third, followed by Easton, North Caroline and North Dorchester.
Kent Island, Queen Anne's and Cambridge-SD each placed three in the top-10 in the girls' race, but the Buccaneers' 4-5-6-7 runners finished 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th to finish in first with 41 points. Queen Anne's placed second by way of a tiebreaker over Cambridge-SD, each team totaling 49 points.
Cambridge-SD junior Jessica Narr won the girls' race in 19:54. She was followed by Kent Island's Maddy Masucci (2nd, 21:21), Cambridge-SD's Madde Narr (3rd, 21:36), Queen Anne's Shannon Maio (4th, 22:00) and Nicole Gue (5th, 22:30).
