BARCLAY — One person was flown to a Baltimore trauma center and another rushed to a local hospital Friday, July 26, when the garbage truck they were in flipped over. Both were released from the hospital the same day. The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Big Woods Road, roughly three miles south of Barclay. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
Maryland State Police said the driver, Steven Clough, 42, an employee of Millington-based Charlie’s Trash Removal, was head south on Big Woods Road when he lost control of the truck due to a reported mechanical problem with the steering wheel. The vehicle overturned after it crossed into the other lane, ran off the shoulder and then veered back into the road.
Police said the passenger, Reese Carpenter Jr., 23, also an employee, was taken by ambulance to Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del.
Clough was flown by MSP helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where spokesman Cindy Rivers said he was initially listed in critical condition.
