CHESTER Phyllis Lee Tryon of Chester died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the Corsica Hills Nursing Home. She was 86.
Born in Baltimore Jan. 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Christy and Marian Oehm. She graduated from Eastern High School in the class of 1944. She went to secretarial school in Baltimore and then worked for a few years as a secretary. Mrs. Tryon moved from Baltimore to Stevensville in 1952.
Mrs. Tryon was very active on Kent Island, helping to start the first kindergarten in the old White House Restaurant Building. She was also very active in the Kent Island United Methodist Church, running the Sunday school program for many years.
She is survived by her children: Sally Hoyt (Tim) of Chester, Keith Tryon (Anita) of Hertford, N.C., Don Tryon (Brenda) of Greensboro, and Ned Tryon Jr. (Rose) of Centreville; her grandchildren: Ayn Hoyt, Eve Hoyt, Sherri Gardner, Kevin Compton, Hollie Tryon, Jeremy Tryon, Matthew Tryon, Tara Tryon, Travis Tryon and Michael Tryon; her great-grandchildren: Nathan Gardner, Brandon Gardner, Devin Gardner, Ani Varady, Celia Varady, J.T. Compton, Caroline Compton, Jordan, Brecciaroli, Jacob Brecciaroli, Ambur Dick, Haley Dick, Dylan Tryon, Olivia Tryon, and Ella Tryon; her great-great-grandchild, Haley Gardner; her sister, Janice Schlegel, many nieces and nephews; and a church family too large to identify.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Allan Tryon, who died in 1988.
A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
