HARMONY - Dive teams continued Sunday to search the Choptank River off Two Johns Road near Harmony for a 32-year-old man who jumped into the water while fishing and did not resurface.
Natural Resources Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Albert said Sunday's search involved a body recovery after dive teams could not locate the man Saturday evening. He said two men were fishing on the Choptank River and one man jumped into the water to cool off at about 4:30 p.m. He said a witness did not see the man resurface and called for help.
Albert did not release the man's name as police are in the process of notifying family members.
Dive teams from Preston Volunteer Fire Company and Seaford, Del., responded along with emergency crews from Denton and Federalsburg fire companies. The two dive teams remained at the river to continue the recovery effort.
The search for the man comes about a year after four people drowned in the waters of Caroline County. Rosa Chalin, 22, of Easton, drowned last June in Marsh Creek after jumping in to save her 2-year-old son who fell into the water. Last July, three Federalsburg boys, Vladimir Jacotin, 12, Christopher Gabriel, 11, and Yamoul Dona, 6, drowned after they apparently tried to cool off in the Marshyhope Creek on a scorching hot day.
